Video editing might seem overwhelming given all the different aspects involved in creating engaging content. Adding text, transitions, and effects are just a few of the details that require attention. The key to producing captivating videos lies in utilizing the right software.

Choosing the Right Editing Software

To enhance your video quality and make them interesting, using a video editing software is paramount. While raw footage can be uploaded directly, a little touch of editing can add the needed sparkle. Numerous video editing programs are available, both paid and free, each with its unique set of features.

iMovie for Apple Users

iMovie is a free application available on Apple devices like iPad and Mac. It offers various transitions and effects, and importantly, allows you to export high-quality videos, a feature not commonly available in free editing software.

Final Cut Pro – A Step Up

For those ready to invest, Final Cut Pro offers a more advanced editing experience. It includes features like AI-generated captions and numerous transitions. However, it is Apple-exclusive and not a free program.

Discover Clipchamp – A Versatile Tool

Clipchamp is a noteworthy free program included in the Microsoft Office bundle for Windows users. Accessible via the web on various platforms, Clipchamp is user-friendly and packed with features similar to iMovie but specifically for Microsoft users.

Features of Clipchamp

Clipchamp’s capabilities extend to auto-editing, where quiet sections of your video are automatically identified and clipped, sharpening your content. It boasts a plethora of free transitions and animated texts, as well as a library of sound effects and media, some of which are available for free to Office 365 subscribers.

The tool’s layout is intuitive and similar to other prominent editors like Premiere Pro and Final Cut, making it an easy transition for those familiar with these applications.

Access and Use Clipchamp on Various Platforms

Clipchamp can be installed from the Microsoft Store on Windows or accessed through web browsers for other devices, making it highly versatile. Videos edited in Clipchamp synchronize across devices via OneDrive, providing flexibility in accessing your projects anywhere.

Exploring Advanced Editing Features

Straight into it! So, where do you actually get started with video editing? Making videos can be quite complicated. You have a whole bunch of different things that you need to take into account. You need to make videos engaging for people, and you also need to add a variety of elements. It’s really confusing to figure out where to start to make an awesome video. The honest truth is that if you want to start making videos, you do need software to edit. By all means, you don’t have to use editing software, as you can just upload raw video that you’ve recorded. However, you do need to add a little bit of a sparkle to make the video more interesting for viewers. First of all, you need to pick an awesome program to get started. Many programs are paid, and I do use paid programs myself, but I also utilize this fantastic free program that I’ll be talking about today. Among all these options, we have a little bit of a blur. I don’t know if you’ve seen this program before, but I’ll be discussing iMovie, Final Cut, and also the mystery program that I’ll reveal at the end, which I believe all of you will benefit from because it is just such an excellent program. It’s also included with your Microsoft Office bundle if you pay for Word and that sort of stuff. Let’s move on to the next slide. iMovie is an awesome app that’s free on your Apple device if you’re an Apple user. It works on iPad and your Mac, offering a whole bunch of transitions and effects. It simplifies video importing, and you can export high-quality videos, which is actually quite rare for free video editing programs. Many free programs don’t allow you to output or render a high-quality video, but iMovie does permit you to render high-quality videos. Now, let’s move on to the next one. Final Cut Pro is another option. It is the pro version of iMovie and is a paid program that I absolutely love and use all the time. It’s Apple exclusive, which is a bit of a shame, but it remains one of my favorite editing programs. You get a plethora of features, including caption support. They have recently added AI-generated captions, so if you’ve seen videos with cool animated captions at the bottom of the screen, you can now do that. You can also engage in advanced editing, which I can discuss in another event if you’re interested. Final Cut Pro also offers a wide range of transitions; however, the significant downsides are that it’s not free, and it’s not available on Windows. Moving on to the next one, I want to showcase a fantastic program that amazed me when I discovered it. It’s actually a Windows program that works on the web and supports Mac, Windows, iPad—pretty much anything that can access the internet. This program is called Clipchamp. If you’re a Windows user, it’s probably already installed on your computer. Clipchamp is a fantastic tool similar to iMovie, but it is the Windows version of a free video editor. It has many tools you can use to create awesome videos. Let’s delve into that right now. Clipchamp offers Auto editing, a feature they’ve recently added. You can take a lengthy video, say you recorded an hour of content, and this program can automatically cut out quiet sections. For instance, if you have a video with five minutes of silence—hopefully, you don’t have five minutes of silence in your video because that would be quite boring—this program will detect that with AI, cut it out, and make your video sharper. Additionally, there are loads of free transitions available. Transitions are cool for keeping viewers’ attention, whether you want a nice crossfade or a more colorful transition—Clipchamp has heaps of options. I’m looking forward to doing a future event where I will do a walkthrough, showing a live screen of how to actually use Clipchamp while editing a video in front of everyone. Yes, it’s an amazing app that keeps getting better. If you pay for your Microsoft subscription, you do get premium features. The excellent thing about this app is that it doesn’t overly restrict you. The paid subscription just allows you to render videos at a higher quality; otherwise, you gain access to a lot of tools for free. I love this program so much. I apologize for any distractions as I switch scenes. When you first open the app, this is what the opening screen looks like. Once you’ve logged in, you are greeted by a plethora of templates. They offer YouTube templates, Instagram templates, intro and outro templates, and gaming templates—these predefined elements help you start video editing quickly. This app is called Clipchamp. It should already be installed on your Windows computer if you’re running Windows. It’s free and absolutely awesome! You can see the templates change the setup of your video. For example, TikTok uses a vertical layout, while YouTube employs a horizontal one. Clipchamp dynamically adjusts the video editing style according to the format. As demonstrated, you have a variety of templates to assist you in starting video editing; it’s such an awesome app! Moving on to the next slide, here’s what Clipchamp looks like in the Microsoft store. You don’t actually need to download it from the Microsoft store because you can access it through its website. It’s definitely an amazing app for video editing. I think there should be a few more slides, but I can’t remember where we are, so let’s continue. This is how the video editor appears, and I have edited one of my recent vertical videos in this app. The layout is familiar to other apps, such as Premiere Pro or Final Cut, and even CapCut, the video editor by ByteDance associated with TikTok. You will notice the section for adding media to your videos, enabling you to import recorded videos made in OBS. I will also do a talk on that shortly—how to record videos. You can import your media, where Clipchamp offers a massive library of animated text and free-to-use media. If you need sound effects for your videos or just some free media, they have that available too. Just a disclaimer: some content is paid for, but if you pay for Microsoft, all of that is generally included. It’s quite simple. Moving on to the right side of the screen, there’s the effects section. You can import all your videos and add text over here, so you can manipulate your video. If you want to add filters or slow down your video, you can do that easily. I personally use the blur effect for certain videos, like when I need to blur the background, and I’ve seen a lot of videos online that feature an impressive slow zoom-in effect. There are so many options available with Clipchamp; it’s absolutely amazing. I might be talking a bit fast today. Over here, you’ll see more of the free media I mentioned before that you can bring into your videos, like subscribe buttons and free music. I believe the music is non-copyrighted, so you can use it on YouTube without fear of being disregarded. So, is this app good for vertical videos? Absolutely! It’s fantastic for that because you can quickly change the video aspect ratio to vertical. I typically edit most of my TikToks and vertical videos in Clipchamp. For long-form videos, I prefer to use Final Cut Pro. I primarily use Clipchamp for vertical editing, and it’s a really effective program. Regarding mobile availability, can you access Clipchamp on iPhones or Androids? Yes, it’s available on Windows computers. There’s a physical app available for download, and you can also edit through the web version. So, if I’m on a Mac, I can access the Clipchamp website. All the videos I’ve done on Clipchamp on my Windows computer will sync across devices. They use OneDrive for storage, making it accessible almost anywhere you can access the internet. Again, these are the effects you can utilize, including transitions. If you watch my YouTube channel, UnderMyCap, you’ll notice I use many animated transitions. Especially these pixelated ones called wipes do a nice swipe across the screen. I can hardly talk right now, likely because it’s quite late in Australia. That wraps up this introduction to Clipchamp. Quick question: does the app have limitations on the maximum quality of your video? Yes, unfortunately, if you don’t pay for Office 365, you can only export videos at 1080p at 30 frames per second. However, if you do have a subscription, like through universities or schools, you can export all the way up to 4K, allowing for the production of amazing videos. But from my experience, 1080p at 30fps is perfectly fine, particularly for vertical videos. You don’t have to worry about resolution too much since most people will watch on their phones. If you’re producing high-definition content, you might want to consider investing in the paid tier. However, I’ve never had to pay for the app—it’s truly a great resource. Before wrapping up, I want to remind you to join the club if you have various inventions you want to showcase or want to meet people with similar styles and building types. Please come to this event; it is capped at eight builders max, so it’s quite small for now. As we expand, we’ll add more slots for people to explore and chat. I appreciate the positive feedback we’ve received. We aim to create an environment where there are fewer building spots but more slots for players, so people can look around and socialize, similar to a convention. I’m thrilled about that! That’s it for today! Thank you so much for attending this event. I apologize for its brevity, as it was quickly organized in about 10 minutes, and I was a bit late. More events will be scheduled as I get back on track. My next event will focus on using YouTube Studio, where I’ll give you a full insight into my studio, showing you all the analytics and stats.
