MakerSpace is an awesome virtual event hosted by UnderMyCap within Rec Room. MakerSpace aims to foster creativity while providing an opportunity for creatives to connect and network with others in the creative community. MakerSpace strives to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants. To achieve this, it’s crucial to ensure fair treatment and active listening for everyone. Additionally, we must address malicious players who deliberately disrupt events. These players should be informed about their actions, given a second chance, and appropriately removed. It’s equally important to ensure that the right players are not punished for doing the right thing. This course aims to provide an overview of MakerSpace events and help participants leave with not only a positive experience but an exceptional one.
What Is Allowed: Occasionally, a player may unintentionally use profanity in their language without causing any harm. However, as long as this language is not directed at any other players and is not consistently used, this behavior is permitted within MakerSpace. Please note that if the swear word that a player uses is a highly sensitive word which targets a group of individuals. Individuals should be warned and informed that discriminatory language is not allowed. For instance, consider the following example: Darren accidentally deletes his work and exclaims, “Oh {profanity word}! I just deleted my work… oh sorry everyone, I was able to recover it.” Stacy is engaged in a conversation with another player and accidentally utters a word to express her frustration about a topic that is not directed at anyone else. For example, she might say, “The other day, I {profanity word}ing tripped over a rock.” What Is NOT Allowed: Sexist, racist, discriminatory, or harassing language, behaviour, or content is not welcome inside MakerSpace and should be highly focused on within events. Eg: Darren is angry and is consistently shouting at another player for talking too much. Darren is also using malicious words which may be offensive and upset the other player. This is not allowed.
MakerSpace is designed to be an awesome environment for all, when a player joins an event it is essential to visit that player and make them feel welcome. Some things you could ask them are: "Hi how are you going today?" "Is this your first time here at MakerSpace" "Welcome! Did you want to try building today?" If is important to make sure that all players visiting MakerSpace are comfortable and regularly checked upon. During an event it is recommended that you walk around the room in a circular motion to check up on everyone. It is also important if a player is new to inform them of the rules which can be summarised bellow: Respect everyone, keep builds PG, no grieving/hacking and no use of props or circuits unless the event mentions that props and circuits are allowed.
To ensure that all players attending MakerSpace events have a great time, it’s crucial that they meet the building requirements. By default, the room restricts new players to the Rec Room. This is done to prevent players from creating alternative accounts quickly after being banned on their main account or to engage in malicious activities using hacking software. MakerSpace is open to a wide range of players. More experienced players with accounts over 30 are less likely to engage in malicious activities using hacking software because they risk loosing an account which has a significant amount of time invested into their player account. Therefore, players below level 30 should be closely monitored. Many players below level 30 may be more prone to causing malicious activity, so it’s essential to keep an eye on them.
Beyond is a system developed by UnderMyCap which aims to reduce malicious activity and help educate individuals on how to mitigate their malicious activities. There are many automated systems which impact players playing MakerSpace, and it's useful to understand why some players may be experiencing different experiences. The room uses voice suppression on players automatically who have a loud microphone. This system will automatically apply and remove once the players’ volume decreases. Auto-zone claiming is also used inside the room to allow individuals to build at events quicker. If a player can't join a zone, it may mean that they have a lower trust score. To allocate a build zone or to remove a build zone, hold your hands above your head in the closed hand position to activate the moderation menu. You also have the option to remove other players if they are causing issues.
