Minecraft’s New AI Helper Bot Is Interesting…

Have you noticed something new pop up on the Minecraft website lately? If not, you’re in for a treat. Minecraft has quietly added a brand new AI helper bot, and it’s honestly pretty fascinating to play around with. In this post, I’m going to walk you through what this AI helper is, how it works, and whether it’s actually useful for players like you and me.

Meet Mel, Your New Minecraft Support Agent

When you first open up the chat, you’re greeted by a character named Mel. She introduces herself as your helpful Minecraft support agent, and she’s currently in beta. Mel is designed to help answer questions about help articles on the site and get you back to crafting as quickly as possible.

What makes Mel stand out is that she’s fully animated. You get a visualized character right there on the screen, and when she talks, her mouth moves and she even gestures with her hands. It’s a really nice touch that makes the whole experience feel more friendly and interactive.

Testing Out Some Crafting Questions

Since Mel is all about getting you back to crafting, the first thing I did was ask her a simple crafting question: how do I make a pickaxe? After a short pause to think, she gave a clear answer, starting with collecting two sticks. She even talks the answer out loud, which is a cool feature if you prefer listening over reading.

Next up, I tested her with a redstone question. I asked how to make a redstone door, and I was genuinely impressed. She explained that you need to place two doors, decide on a redstone mechanism using redstone torches, connect them with redstone dust, or use a lever instead. That’s actually solid, helpful advice for anyone learning redstone.

Does the AI Ever Get It Wrong?

One thing I really wanted to test was whether the AI would make up fake information, also known as hallucinating. So I invented a fake sapling called a “red cherry sapling” and asked how to grow it. To my relief, Mel admitted she didn’t know, rather than giving me nonsense. That’s a great sign that the bot is designed to be honest instead of confidently wrong.

A Few Quirks Along the Way

It wasn’t all smooth sailing though. When I asked how to kill a creeper, the system seemed to flag the wording. I had to reword my question to something like “how do you remove a creeper” before it would respond properly. So it looks like you need to be a bit careful and thoughtful with how you phrase things.

There were a couple of other odd moments too. Some questions got flagged for reasons that weren’t totally clear, like asking how to power a minecart. It left me a little confused, but again, this is beta software, so a few hiccups are to be expected.

Final Thoughts on Minecraft’s AI Helper

Overall, I can definitely see the potential here. Mel is friendly, the animations are charming, and when she answers correctly, she gives genuinely useful information. That said, it still feels like it needs a bit more polishing before it’s truly ready for everyone. The wording sensitivity and occasional flagged questions show there’s room for improvement.

If you just need a quick answer to a simple question, this AI helper could be handy. But if you want detailed tutorials, you can always search up plenty of guides online too.

What do you think about Minecraft adding an AI helper bot? Is this something you’d actually use, or would you rather stick to traditional tutorials? Let me know your thoughts, and thanks for reading. I can’t wait to see you in the next post!

Video Transcript

Hey everybody, it’s Under My Cap and welcome back to another video where today I’m showing you a weird feature which I found recently. Minecraft has added a brand new AI help bot. I don’t know who asked for this. As you can see, we have a character like a visualized character over here and you can chat to it and I guess you can ask it questions. It says, “Hi, I’m Mel, your helpful Minecraft support agent in beta, and we’re going to need to know why it’s in beta. I can help answer questions you have about help articles on this site. Let’s get you back to crafting.”So, I mean, if it’s trying to get us back to crafting, the obvious thing we should ask it is like crafting questions. How do I make a pickaxe?Okay, so it thinks interesting. It takes a long time.Collect two sticks.Oh, she talks as well. Very cool. You can see I’m going to turn her voice down. You can see her mouth moves and she like also moves her hands which is super cool as well.Okay, this is very cool. How do I stop? There we are. Very cool. I like how it’s animated and it seems very straightforward. Person seems super nice. Let’s ask some more questions.Let’s say, when did Minecraft get released? I spelled that wrong. Okay, it doesn’t matter. I don’t know Minecraft to a Minecraft. Well, that is related to Minecraft because it’s when it was. Okay, what about how do I kill a creeper? How do I kill a creeper?Oh, it put a hashtag next to it. How? Okay. We’ll reword it.How do you end a creeper? I’m just How do Or remove? Maybe remove is more appropriate.Okay. So, it does have some stuff. Very cool. So, it can you just have to reword it and I guess they have to be sensitive with how you type stuff in.Okay, now I’m going to ask just a random one. How to build a TNT house. I feel like that’s going to just get flagged by the system. How to build a TNT house. I want to build a house and I’ve seen those videos online. How do you build a TNT house?Okay, how do I make a redstone door? Okay, let’s say I don’t actually know how to make like one of those piston redstone doors. So, does it know how to answer that?To make a redstone door in Minecraft, you will need to follow.Okay, so it does have. I’m not going to finish that response, but it does do a good job. It does. I have to say, place two doors. Decide whether you want to place the redstone mechanism using redstone torches. Place them on the ground next to the doors and connect them with redstone dust. Alternatively, you can use a lever. Yep.Awesome. Now, I want to see can the AI hallucinate because I want to make sure like it’s actually correct. So, I’m going to make up a sapling name and just ask how to grow it. How do you grow a red a red cherry sapling in Minecraft?Okay, let’s see. Does it know what it’s talking about? Will it just give us some junk information?Okay, that’s fair. That’s fair. It doesn’t know. What about how do you power a minecart? What? How do you power a minecart? What? What’s inappropriate with this power? M. It wouldn’t be minecart, would it? Uh, what about what is a minecart? Okay, surely it’s not minecart cuz that’s not inappropriate, is it?Okay, I’m so confused. Maybe maybe it was something else. But I see the potential. It’s still in beta. What do you guys think? I think it’s a little bit like I reckon they should have worked on it just a bit better, but I mean it can help people if you just need an answer to something.Otherwise you can just search up under my cap and he’s got pretty much every tutorial you need. But if you did like this video, make sure to leave a like and subscribe and I can’t wait to see you in the next video. Let’s ask Mel if she can say bye. Okay, let’s see. Will she I don’t know. Okay. Well, that’s a good way to end the
